My New Favorite Thing

When I was raising my kids, I always encouraged them to try new things. I told them, "it could be your new favorite thing!" One of my favorite things is making a nice cup of tea for myself. I love the ritual of making it, and I love the way it feels to hold a warm mug in my hands. I love lattes too, but too much coffee/dairy upsets my stomach, so for years I've been primarily a green tea drinker, occasionally adding chamomile or peppermint to my tea repertoire. I'm also trying to get better about drinking more water on a daily basis, and herbal tea counts. Since I do love that warm mug in my hands, and I need to drink more water, after my morning tea, I often make myself a cup of hot water with about a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Now I've discovered something new, and guess what? It's my new favorite thing!

Today on a whim, I added in a fresh sprig of rosemary to my hot lemon water and it was awesome! I googled "rosemary" and learned that it's is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae, along with many other herbs, such as oregano, thyme, basil, and lavender. It is also a good source of iron, calcium, and vitamin B-6. The herb has medicinal properties, and has been used to help alleviate muscle pain, improve memory, boost the immune and circulatory system, and promote hair growth. I think I'm going to start experimenting with different herbs and citrus more often. I've also been doing this with cold sparkling water when I don't feel like having alcohol but I do want something more special than just a glass of water (and I don't drink sodas because those are so bad for you).
